Call or video an employee

Talk to an employee you have hired by voice or on video, show them things with your camera, and know what a call uses.

Start a call

When talking is quicker than typing, call the employee. They answer out loud, and their words appear on your screen as they speak. Each employee has a voice chosen for them: the men on your team speak with men's voices and the women with women's voices.

You can call any employee you have hired, from their desk. Calls use credits, on any plan; see How credits work.

  1. Open the employee's desk. Next to Chat and Delivered you see two round buttons.
  2. Tap the phone button, Call followed by their name (for example Call Emma), for a voice call, or the camera button, Video call with their name, to start with your camera on.
  3. If your phone asks, allow the microphone. If it is blocked, Nourva says Allow the microphone to call.
  4. The employee greets you. When the screen reads Listening — go ahead, speak.
Example
Emma, I have a job interview on Thursday. Can we practise the first five minutes?

You can be on one call at a time. You cannot start a call while you are talking to Nourva One: end that conversation first.

The call screen

The employee fills the screen. A band over the picture shows what is happening, such as Connecting, Listening — go ahead, Speaking or Reconnecting…, with the time of the call. It shows the last few lines of the conversation; tap it to open the whole Transcript, and tap again to fold it.

ControlWhat it does
The employee's name, at the topMinimize. The call goes on while you use the rest of Nourva. In Hiring, a button with their face, name and the call's time stays near the bottom of the screen: tap it to go back to the call. Tapping their call button on their desk also brings you back.
Microphone buttonMute switches your microphone off. It then reads Unmute.
Camera buttonTurns your camera on or off. It reads camera on or camera off.
Flip cameraAppears on the small picture of your camera while it is on. It switches between the back and front lens.
EndEnds the call.
Box at the bottomType a message, or add a photo or a file, while you talk. It reaches the employee at once.

Everything the employee says is written in the band, so you can follow a call with the sound off, and you can type your side of it.

Show them something

Start with Video call with their name, or tap the camera button during a voice call. The employee sees only what your camera shows, and only while it is on. If you ask them to look at something while the camera is off, they tell you; turn it on and ask again.

The camera opens on the back lens, so point it at what you want them to see and say what to look at. To show your face instead, ask them to flip the camera, or tap Flip camera.

Example
Look at this label and tell me if it fits my diet.

A lesson call for a child has no camera. See Lessons for a child with the Teacher.

What you can ask on a call

  • Your language. The employee greets you in the language you last wrote to them on their desk, or in the app's language if you have not written yet. From then on they answer in the language of your latest words. Ask for a language or a dialect and they switch to it and keep it until you ask for another.
  • Finished work. Ask for a report, a plan or a document and the employee starts it on their desk. The app says Started. The work keeps running after the call ends, and you find it under Delivered.
  • Work already done. Ask to see their latest report and they open it in front of you; the call goes on, minimized, while you read.
  • What you have discussed. They know the recent messages on their desk and the last piece they delivered. They also use Nourva's memory when you have it on; see Nourva Mind.

When the call ends, a row labelled Call · with its length stays on the desk. Tap it to read the Transcript again.

Credits and limits

A call uses credits while it runs, and you need enough credits to start one. When your balance runs out during a call, the call ends and the app says Your call balance ran out. There is also an hourly limit on how many calls you can start; the app tells you when you reach it.

If the line drops, the band reads Reconnecting…. When it comes back, the employee says the line dropped and asks you to repeat what you last said.
