Find and keep a font
Fonts in the Designer
Fonts is where the Designer finds a typeface for your brand. Search a free library, find the closest match to lettering you saw somewhere, or bring a font file you already have. A font you keep goes into your brand kit, and the posts you make carry it.
- Open Apps and tap The Designer.
- Under What to make, tap Fonts.
You can also tap + in the Designer and choose A font; it opens the same screen. You need to be signed in to use Fonts.
Search the free library
The screen says Search the free library, or bring your own. Every font in it is free.
- Tap a category: All, Serif, Sans-serif, Display, Handwriting or Monospace.
- Or type a name in the box, Search a font name…. Results update as you type.
- Scroll the list. Each row shows a short phrase set in that font, its name, its category and how many weights it has, for example 3 weights.
If you type the name of a well-known paid font, Nourva puts the nearest free one at the top of the list and tells you: The closest free match to “…” is …. When nothing fits, you see No fonts found.
Find a font from a photo
Use this when you like the letters on a sign, a label or a poster and want a free font that looks like them.
- On the Fonts screen, tap From a photo.
- Tap Add a photo and choose a picture with the lettering in it.
- Wait while it shows Reading the lettering….
- Under Lettering found, tap a match.
The matches are free lookalikes only, never a copy of the original file. The photo you add leaves Nourva's servers after a short time. A daily limit applies: when you reach it, the screen says That's enough for today. Try again tomorrow.
Keep a font in your brand kit
Tap any font in the list or in a photo's matches. If you have no brand kit yet, Nourva says You need a brand kit first. and offers Open kit. With a kit, a sheet titled Use … for… opens with three choices:
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display type | Sets the font for headlines and titles. |
| Body text | Sets the font for the rest of the text. |
| Just keep it | Saves the font in your kit without a role, so you can give it one afterwards. |
Under Display type and Body text, the sheet shows the font in that role now, or Not set. A font that is already your display or body font cannot be kept a second time: Nourva says That font already has a role in your kit.
Your kit keeps a limited number of fonts without a role, and the app tells you when it is full. To free a place, open Your fonts, tap the kept font and choose Let it go, then tap Let it go again to confirm. The same menu can give a kept font a role: Display type or Body text.
Bring your own font
You can use a font file you have the right to use. It works with OTF, TTF, WOFF or WOFF2 files, and Nourva uses it only in what you make.
- On the Fonts screen, tap Your fonts.
- Turn on I have the licence for this font. Nourva never shares or sells it.
- Tap Add a font file and choose the file.
- In the Use … for… sheet, choose Display type, Body text or Just keep it.
You can also reach Your fonts from your brand kit: tap ⋯ and choose Change the type, or tap a font under Type. If the switch is off, Nourva says Turn on the licence switch first. Without a brand kit, the screen says Save a brand kit to give it its own fonts.
Use it in posts and your brand
When you have a brand kit, every post you make uses it, and the kit's two fonts guide the style of the lettering. Your kit lists them under Type, as Headlines and Smaller text.
When no font has the word you want, Nourva can draw it as custom lettering in different styles.
- On the Fonts screen, tap A word no font has.
- Type the word in the box and send it.
- Tap Draw it. The button shows the price in credits.
To give the word a feel, type it in the box instead of tapping Draw it, such as “rounder, like a sunrise”, and send it; Nourva draws the word with that feel.
