Make a document, workbook, deck or PDF
Ask in your own words
The Office turns a plain request into a finished file. Use it when you need a report, a budget sheet, a set of slides or a PDF and would rather say what you want than build it by hand.
- Open The Office on the bottom bar.
- Tap Make me a file, or write in the box at the bottom. The box asks What do you need?
- Say what the file is for, who will read it and what must be in it, then send.
On an empty desk you can also tap one of the examples, such as Prepare my meeting or Sort my expenses, to send it as your first message. The desk may answer with a short question first, such as what the paper is about and for whom; reply in the box or tap one of its suggestions.
An expense sheet for my household, with categories, formulas and a total.A short deck that explains my idea in five slides.Choose the kind and the level
You can name the kind in your words, or pick it yourself:
- Tap + in the box.
- Under New document, choose Word, Excel, Deck or PDF.
- Set the level with Think: Low, Mid, Max or Ultra.
Your choices show as small tags in the box, and a deck reads Slides there; tap the kind's tag to clear it. If you pick no kind, the desk works it out from your words. Max is the level you start on. A higher level takes more care over the paper and costs more credits; Levels and credits explains the difference.
How long a paper can be
Say the length in your request, for example "a 12-page report". Nourva follows it, up to the most that kind of file can hold. Ask for more and you get the most. With no length named, a Word document or a PDF follows the level, and a workbook gets several sheets.
| Level | Word or PDF with no length named |
|---|---|
| Low | The shortest |
| Mid | Longer |
| Max | Longer again |
| Ultra | The longest |
Add photos or files
Attach the material the paper should be built from, such as notes, a photo of a whiteboard or last month's figures.
- Tap + in the box.
- Choose Photos, Camera or Files.
- Pick what you want.
- Write your request and send it.
A message has a limit on attachments, and the app tells you when you reach it. If you are not signed in, Nourva asks you to sign in first. The Scan row opens the scanner instead; see Scan a paper.
Watch it being made
A card appears with the kind of file and its title. It shows four steps in order: Outline, Write, Lay out and Check.
The Office can also draw pictures for the paper, a cover and an opening for each section, made for your subject. While it does, the card reads Drawing the pictures. To switch pictures on or off, tap +, open Desk tools and use Pictures. Page size, alignment, sources and the small Nourva mark are set there too; see Paper size, alignment, pictures and sources.
A document, a workbook or a PDF keeps being made when you leave the app or lock your phone. To be told when it is done or stops, keep Work is ready or stops on under Settings › Notifications. Tapping the notice opens the finished paper, or tells you why it paused.
Stop, pause and resume
- Tap Stop on the card while it works.
- In the Are you sure? popup, tap Stop.
The card then reads Stopped, with the step it reached, and shows Resume. Tap Resume to carry on, or write a change in the box, which now asks Change it, or resume….
A paper can also pause by itself. The card then shows Needs you and Resume, and says in words why it paused and what to do:
- It ran longer than one stretch allows, or the work stopped responding: tap Resume and it continues from its last saved page.
- Your credit ran out: once you have credit again, tap Resume and it continues from its last saved page.
- The paper reached the most one document may use: ask for it again in two smaller parts.
- Today's limit for documents is reached: resume it tomorrow.
Find your file
When the paper is ready, the card shows Saved in my files, a preview and three actions: Open, Send it to…, and a ⋯ menu with Share and Change something. A PDF also offers Sign there. A paper made while you are signed in is kept in My files, which you open from the Office home or from the + sheet.
