Lessons for a child with the Teacher
How a lesson works
Noah is the Teacher on your team of employees. You set up a lesson, hand your child the phone, and the screen stays inside the lesson until a grown-up finishes it. Noah speaks to the child by name in short sentences and simple words, asks one question at a time and praises effort.
Lessons belong to the Teacher alone, so hire Noah first: open Hiring, tap Noah's card and tap Hire Noah. You can hire the employees on any plan. Their work, lessons included, uses credits. Plan details are on the Pricing page.
Set up a lesson
- Open Hiring and tap Noah's card.
- Tap For a child.
- Type the Child's name.
- Choose an Age.
- Choose What to learn.
- Choose How long.
- Choose Chat or talk.
- Tap Start the lesson. Once the name is in, the button reads Start with and the name.
| Choice | Options |
|---|---|
| Age | 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12. |
| What to learn | English, your app's own language (when it is not English), Reading, Numbers, Science, Letters, or Something else…. For that last one, write the topic in the box marked In your words. |
| How long | 10 min, 15 min, 20 min, 45 min or 60 min. |
| Chat or talk | Chat for typing, or Talk for speaking. |
The name and, for Something else…, the topic are required. The Parent lock note above the button reminds you to hand the phone over and how to finish. Nourva remembers your last setup and fills it in next time.
Noah starts in your app's language and then answers in the language the child speaks. In a language lesson, Noah teaches one word or phrase at a time, says it in the language being learned, then explains it in the child's language.
During the lesson
The lesson fills the screen. The rest of the app stays out of the child's reach, and if the app is closed and opened again, the lesson comes back locked on the same clock.
- Chat lesson. The child types in the box marked Tell Noah…. Noah greets the child by name and asks a first simple question.
- Talk lesson. Tap Talk with Noah. The child speaks and Noah answers in voice. The microphone must be allowed.
- Homework photo. In a chat lesson, tap + and choose Homework photo. One picture goes to Noah from the camera or the photo library. Noah says in one line what it is, then teaches it one step at a time and asks the child to try the next step instead of handing over the answer. If the picture is not clear, Noah asks for a better one.
- The board. In a chat lesson, for a sum, a spelling or the steps of a problem, Noah writes on The board: a card with a title and short steps. It is sized to the child's age, from things to count for the youngest to the real method with every step shown for the oldest.
Finish a lesson
A lesson ends on its own clock. The screen shows Time's up, and the child earns a star for a lesson that runs its full time. The count appears as Stars today and is kept on that phone. The screen stays locked until a grown-up finishes.
To finish, press and hold Hold to finish at the foot of the screen, or the lock at the top, until the lesson ends. A lesson ended early earns no star. Either way you land back on Noah's desk, and the lesson goes to the log.
Read the lesson log
On Noah's desk, tap Lessons. Each entry shows the child's name and stars, then when the lesson ended, the topic, the minutes, Chat or Talk, the child's number of answers and a short line from the lesson. The log belongs to your account and lists your most recent lessons. If no lesson is added for a long while, it is cleared. Before there is one, it says No lessons yet.
On the phone that ran a lesson, tap an entry to open its words, the child's and Noah's. The words of the most recent lessons stay on that phone.
If a lesson is still running that this phone is not locked into, for example one started on another phone, the screen shows who is in a lesson and the time left, with Resume the lesson and End the lesson.
Noah for grown-ups
Noah's desk works for you as well. Ask for anything explained at your level, step by step. Send a photo of homework and Noah solves it and shows the method. Ask for a study plan, a quiz or flashcards. Add photos, a camera shot or files with +, several at a time.
