Ask about a photo or a file
What you can ask
Add a photo, a PDF or a document to your message and ask about it. Nourva reads what you attached and answers from it.
What does this letter ask me to do, and by when?Use it to get a summary of a long report, the numbers out of a table, the text on a photographed sign, or a plain-words explanation of a contract. Attachments are for questions about something you already have. To make a new picture, see Make and edit pictures.
Attach something
- In a chat, tap + beside the box.
- Choose Photos to pick from your library, Camera to take a photo, or Files to pick a document. You can pick several photos or files at once.
- Check the cards that appear above the box. Tap a card to look at it, or tap × on it to remove it.
- Write your question and send the message.
To add more, tap + again. A line above the box counts what you added, for example 3 items. In your sent message, a photo shows as a small picture and a document as a chip with its name.
If the camera does not open, check that Nourva is allowed to use the camera in your phone's settings, or choose Photos instead.
What Nourva can read
| You attach | What Nourva reads |
|---|---|
| A picture: a photo, a camera shot or a screenshot | The picture itself, so you can ask what is in it or ask for the text on it. Photos in the iPhone's HEIC format work too. |
| A PDF | The text of the PDF, from its beginning. A scanned PDF with no readable text is read from its first few pages. |
| A Word, Excel or deck file | The text inside it: .docx, .doc, .odt, .rtf, .xlsx, .xls, .pptx and .ppt. |
| A text, code or data file | The text: .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .html, .xml, source code, subtitle files and more, as long as the file is not too large. |
Nourva does not read other kinds of file, such as audio, video or zip archives. A very long document is read from its beginning, and Nourva says in its answer that the file was cut.
To turn a paper into a clean document, use the scanner in the Office instead. See Scan a paper.
How many, and what your message tells you
One message takes a limited number of items. The pages of a scanned PDF count among them.
When you try to add more than fits, the line above the box tells you so: it asks you to remove one first when the message is full, or says how many were left out.
When a file does not go through, a short note appears under your message, and the rest of the message still goes:
- Couldn't read: with the file's name and — not sent. The file is a kind Nourva cannot read, a document that is damaged or locked, or a text file that is too large.
- Not sent, with the file's name: that file did not fit in the message.
Nourva's answer also says which files it did not receive. To ask about a file that was left out, attach it again in your next message.
Credits and accounts
A basic chat is a text message with no search, thinking, file, picture or voice. A message with a photo or a file is more than a basic chat, so it uses credits.
- Starter: attachments run on credits. Starter includes no credits, but credits Nourva gives you work on any plan. If you have none, tapping Photos, Camera or Files shows Needs credits, with See plans. Your free basic chats still work.
- Professional, Ultimate and Max: in the app, a message with an attachment that falls inside your free chats for the day costs only the difference over a basic chat. After your free chats, it runs on your credits.
- Without an account: you can chat only, so attachments are not available. Tapping one asks you to sign in.
To see how many free chats you have left today, open Settings › Subscription & usage and look under Today. For how credits are used and bought, see How credits work.
