Start a brand

From four facts to an identity book

Use Brand in the Designer when you start a business or give one a new look. Nourva studies your market first, draws logos from that study, builds a brand kit around the logo you pick, and lays out an identity book.

You get:

• A market study with real sources.
• Logos to choose from, drawn from the study.
• The logo in four versions, each its own file.
• Colours with HEX, RGB and CMYK codes.
• Type, voice, rules and what never to do.
• A complete identity book as a PDF.

You need to be signed in. Each step spends credits, and its price is on its button. A part that does not come out is not charged. See How credits work.

Give the facts

1. Open Apps, choose The Designer and tap Brand under What to make. Start a brand opens.
2. Fill in Name, What you make, For whom and Where.
3. Optional: under How it should feel, choose any of Warm, Playful, Minimal, Bold, Elegant and Natural.
4. Optional: under An old logo or a sketch (optional), tap Add and choose your pictures. The study learns from them.

You can also type the facts in the bottom box: each message fills the first empty one. Once all four are in, anything more you type is kept for the study under You also told me.

If a fact is missing when you go on, the screen says Fill in the name, what you make, for whom and where first.

If you already have a kit, Brand opens it instead. To begin another brand, tap ⋯ More › Start a new identity.

The study and the logos

1. Under How many logos, tap the minus or plus button to choose how many logos you want. The price follows the count.
2. Tap Make the identity.

The study comes first, and the logos are drawn from it on their own. The line Your identity shows each step: Study, the logos, The kit and The book. A running step keeps going if you leave, and the next one starts as soon as the Designer is open.

The study page shows Who it is for, The name, Look-alikes, The market, Where it will live, A palette to start from, What this was read from and Three directions to start from. Tap a source to read it in the app.

To ask about the study, type in the box. It answers from the study only.

Why did you choose these colours for a bakery in Riyadh?

To pay for the study alone, tap Only the study for now on Start a brand. When you want the logos, the study page offers to draw them, in the number you choose.

Pick a logo, then get the kit and the book

The logos page says Pick one to three to carry forward.

1. Tap one to three logos. Each picked logo shows its number. A fourth tap shows Pick up to three.
2. Optional: type in the box how to merge your picks, or a change to a single pick.
3. Tap Make the kit and book.

With two or three picks, or one pick and a note, Nourva first makes one finished logo from them. Then it saves the kit and writes the identity book, and the pages are laid out. Tap Save as PDF to open your phone’s share sheet, or tap ⋯ More › Share the pages as pictures.

Below the pages is the kit.

Change the kit or the book

• Type a change in the box on the book page, Change the logo…. Nourva makes a new logo from the one you have, then the kit and the book again. The box shows the price.
• ⋯ More › Edit the colours lets you rename, add or remove a colour, or change its code. A code is # and six letters or digits, like #1A2B3C. Tap Save the colours and the pages are laid out again.
• ⋯ More › Change the type opens Your fonts. See Find and keep a font.
• ⋯ More › Change the book’s words asks What to change. Tap Write it again.
• Write the book again, under The book in words, writes the book once more, at the price beside it.
• ⋯ More › Your kits lists your kits. Tap one to use it, or tap its bin to delete it.

A logo from a sketch

A sketched logo comes back as a clean, flat logo.

1. On the Designer’s home, tap + in the box at the bottom and choose Draw.
2. Sketch with your finger, or tap Photo of a sketch to bring one you drew on paper.
3. Optional: say what it is in What is it? (optional).
4. Tap Make it real. The price is on the button.

For a whole brand around your sketch, add it on Start a brand instead.

A vector logo

A vector logo stays sharp at any size, from an app icon to a shop sign. On the book page, under The logo, you have two ways. Both wait until the kit has a logo.

1. Tap Trace it in vector. It is free, as many times as you like.
2. Compare Your logo with Traced, and tap the minus or plus button beside Colours until it looks right.
3. Tap Save to your kit, or tap the share button to send the file.

Draw it in vector is for a gradient mark, and it costs credits. The price shows beside it. When it is ready, tap Save. To change it, type in the box, which shows the price.
